Your holy baldiness, Mickey Mo, has taken his first dive into designing a board game… Well, technically the first. He made one in high school for a project once, alongside his long-time pal Danger Paul (as he is fondly known in the pro wrestling circle) but it was an ambitious pursuit that fell shorter than Paris De Silva. Got him.

This image is just a placeholder while I learn to navigate the use of this site etc. Woo!
Okay, I’m the one writing this piece so I see no need to continue the third person narrative.
I’m no stranger to games. In fact I originally studied to be a game designer/director. What? Yeah. I have a Masters Degree in Design Science in Digital Media. GTFO. Then pro wrestling took a hold of me and that all fell by the way side, but mayhaps, its back!
The Divine Climb is another ambitious pursuit! Uh-oh. But this one should stand tall as a mountain – pun intended, once you know the game! *winky face.
I can’t tell you exactly where the idea originated. My brain is always just spitting out random ideas for things, and at some point it was on a board game train. One thing that was pooling about, was the idea of something re-playable that fostered a different player story each time. The other big idea was to craft something that was played in three dimensions. A game that builds right there in front of them. That’s when the idea of the players building a mountain found its way in.
From there I just remember brainstorming how to make the building of a mountain make sense. The notion of using deities struck me. Gods build planets and nature and whatnot, why don’t I have players take on the role of gods? But “which gods?” I thought. It could have been just Greek or Norse but I always see games pick one and stick to it, I wanted something different, something scalable, something UNIVERSAL – okay it may not have been all that dramatic, I just thought using representatives from any and all of the faiths, be they from real life, stories, myths or otherwise, would be kind of cool.
And so the idea of The Divine Climb was birthed and struck a chord of inspiration in this wayward bald creative that has led to its continued development.
To be continued…
